Earlier this year, the City of Seattle and Seattle Parks & Recreation jumped at the opportunity to purchase 39,000 square feet of residential land near the corner of 70th Avenue NW & NW 9th Street for a new Ballard Park and green space. The sale by The Seventh Elect Church in Israel is projected to cost the City of Seattle just around $3 million. The project will add almost an acre to the approximately 114 acres of park space in the fast growing Ballard. Funding from the ProParks Levy, which has already helped complete over 70 park development projects, will be used for the purchase.
Groundswell NW (a community non-profit group working on several parks projects in the Ballard area) is hosting a celebration of the new park purchase this coming Sunday, May 4th from 1-3pm at the site. Residents will be able to check out the property and share their opinions on what they would like to see the City of Seattle put here. So get out, meet your neighbors and help Ballard get a little more green!
